pH down will bring down pH levels of your water to the optimal range for plant life - between 5.5 and 6.5 pH. Tap water is usually measured with pH levels of 7 or higher so it's good to keep a bottle of pH down handy. More often than not pH levels increase over time due to nutrients being added as well as temperature changes in the water. For example - as water temperature rises, more CO2 is released which slowly raises pH. It's important to check your pH weekly (or more) to make sure your pH levels aren't drifiting out of range.
